Nella parte alta delle montagne del Rif, Chefchaouen è una magnifica medina con case bianche e blu che è stata precedentemente un accampamento berbero. Fondata nel 1471 da Moulay Ali Ben Moussa Ben Rached El Alamiand è ormai praticamente un rudere accanto alla grande moschea. Chefchaouen era una fortezza moresca per gli esuli dalla Spagna. Nel corso dei secoli la città si ampliò e accolse sia gli ebrei che i cristiani convertiti. La piazza principale è considerata il cuore di Chefchaouen con la kasbah costruita nel XVIII secolo, la moschea centrale e le caffetterie con menu in stile originale marocchino. Il mercato è un mix tradizionale di souvenir marocchini e per turisti. La medina è piccola e la città è facile da esplorare, potrai fare una passeggiata fino alla piazza principale e ai souk, che vendono una vasta gamma di prodotti.

Really enjoyed this trip. The drive to the city was very interesting. The guide in the city took us on a comfortable pace through many different parts of the city. Stopping often to point out items of interest about the culture and giving a detailed description of the background and meaning. Both the guide and the driver coordinated their portions of the tour to make sure we had the opportunity to see the maximum amount of the city, but still stay on schedule with our ship's departure schedule.
My driver and tour guide were very professional and knowledgeable. Chefchaouen is a beautiful village to tour. Amazing photos, lots of walking and great shopping that is cheaper than the bigger cities. The people dont harass you to purchase items from their shops. Lots of authentic items and memories for a lifetime. I would visit Chefchaouen over and over because its so unique. Its like going back in time and feeling like you were there in the early days.
