The directions to meet the guide were 'vague'... within walking distance of the ship... no one had a sign with my name or Viator or Nazca... no clues... there were people milling around in front of the gangway ... asking if we needed taxis... there were buses parked about 1/2 block away...within walking distance... no one had any idea what was going on. Someone suggested that perhaps I had to go to the Security gate...quite a way up a steep hill... so I got into a taxi to go up to the gate... luckily, a man put 2 and 2 together and came to get me... 6 of us got into a van and were driving to downtown Paracas... the others were driven to the wharf... I was told to wait in the city park... eventually a gentleman came over and said he was the guide. It was all rather 'loosey-goosey... He was a careful driver and explained what we were seeing and some history of the area, which I really appreciated. First we drove to a winery... I had to go on a walking tour to see grape vines, where the grapes were crushed and how the liquid is further distilled to make Pisco. I was given a few samples of wine and Pisco to taste. The gentleman there was a nice young man... but I live in Napa... and have been to 'a few' wineries... lol... Then we drove a long way to the town of ICA where the airport was located. The whole tour supposedly began at 9 am and lasted till 4:00pm... there was never an opportunity to get anything for lunch or a snack... no water was included... luckily I brought my own water bottle from the ship I get hypoglycemia and need to eat regularly... I had a sesame seed cracker snack... which I broke and shared with the driver. We got to the airport, and he got me checked in... there was nothing there...we waited at least an hour could have stopped for something to eat enroute??? as I stood in line for 'security' ... he suddenly asked me for my passport... I thought there was some security thing to be done and handed it over... no... he just wanted to read my personal information... when he had done so, he handed it back... When I got to the plane I was assigned to a seat with the wing strut right outside the window... not a good viewing situation ... The pilots were good, and did their best to 'locate' the figures under the wing tip so we could spot them... I had to work around the wing strut, and missed seeing 2 of the figures... the whale and the dog When we returned, i asked to go back to the ship, but was told we had to go to some lake... ok... it was a depression in the land with water and a large dune behind it.. some sad looking boats with palm leaf roofs were being paddled around. My guide found a couple from Ukraine that he'd met in Paracas earlier and spent quite a while chatting. I wandered around took some photos and waited. When he came over I asked to go back to the ship we had to be on board at 4:30... he said I should take pictures of the lake. Told him I already did that while he was visiting. We began the LONG drive back... he finally got the idea we were running out of time and kept up a good pace. Got to the security gate and I had no way to get to the pier. The guard called a shuttle to get me... Luckily one came. I got to the gangway just as the crew were taking in the water and cold towels. I must have been the last passenger on board. My husband was rather upset that the time was cut so close. I was about ready to faint and rushed to get something to eat. All in all it was rather disappointing.. the whole cruise was booked so I could see the Nazca Lines, and that was more of a struggle with the wing strut in the way... the guide had no clue that a 7 hour tour should include some water, and some sort of snack... and he had no business asking for my passport because he was nosy...he could have made sure I had a good seat in the plane, but didn't... it wasn't allotted by weight... people weighing more than me were further back, and less than me both in front and behind me, and a little kid sat across from me... I would have trouble recommending this particular tour... disappointing since I've heard such wonderful things about Viator tours.
