We were staying in Elounda and started the day at 6:30am for an hour-plus ride to Heraklion followed by a two hour ferry ride to Santorini followed by a 35 minute coach bus trip to Oia. The ferry was big but the water was pretty rough and several people were seasick. In Oia the streets (which are only about 3 people wide) were so packed with tourists you could hardly move. Barely had time to see/do anything and wasted a ton of time trying to find the spot to take the "postcard" shot with the blue cupola (which we never did find). We wanted to go to the black sand beach after Oia but were advised it was another 35 minute bus ride to get there and we would only have about 25-30 minutes at the beach before we would have to get on the bus for the return trip to the port. We decided to continue on to Thira instead, where we literally only had time for lunch and some quick shopping before we had to re-board the bus for our return to the port. Two more hours on the ferry to Heraklion and another hour-plus to Elounda; we didn't get back to our hotel until after 8:00pm. Very long day for very little enjoyment. I will say that the tour was well-run and the people were extremely nice but I would rather have spent the day doing something in Crete instead.

Lovely day out but there are a few little things to consider. On pick up out coach didn't have enough seats meaning I have a sit on my husbands lap till we got to the port, which in the heat was not the best start the trip! It is a little school trip like as you are kept to a tight schedule and are only in the towns for around an hour at the most- a lot of the trip is on the coach. If I was to give a suggestion-when given the option to stay in the town, visit the beach or go the the volcano, I would suggest the town. The beach was nice but a little dull and another couple who we spoke to didn't rate the volcano trip which also ran out of food. I would highly recommend this trip but you are not free to wonder as much as you think you can.
