As part of the Northern Territory experience I highly recommend doing the trip to Tiwi Islands. It is an excellent way to be exposed to the many aspects of the Aboriginal community who lives there. The guided tour over the island, incl. smoking ceremony gave a deep insight in the importance of old and new rituals still adhered to. I particularly liked the little catholic church completely decorated in aboriginal art.The Tiwi people allow their own culture and the input from the missionaries to co-exist in harmony. If you have extra money in your pocket you will be wanting to buy some of the authentic art directly from the artists at the Arts Centre. A unique chance to see and make art t-shirt at first hand.
Fantastic. Very interesting and the Tiwi people are friendly and are proud of their culture, art and recent history. I highly recommend this trip.
Very dispointing! Overpriced! Over the six hours we sat at a art shop for three hours then went to the museum for 2 hours. Lunch was terrible. Very dispointing tour after we heard such great things about the island. Oh the information Viator send us said 7am start and it was an 8am start!
